Blood Orange – Sake Sorbet
I love light flavorful icy treats like Italian ices, fruit pops and popsicles. So of course I love sorbets and fruit-flavored ones are my favorite. Some friends and I were fortunate to get some blood oranges recently and I started to see postings of wonderful cocktails on display.
I was inspired to make my own frozen cocktail. Sorbet recipes I have enjoyed have the optional addition of vodka which helps the texture, and so I thought, “why not?!”
The results were a beautiful and delightful summer treat.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups of orange juice (about 4-5 oranges)
- 2 teaspoons orange zest
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 cup saké (optional)
PREPARATION
Mix orange juice and zest, sugar, lemon juice, and saké in a bowl and stir until sugar has dissolved.
Refrigerate mixture for about one hour.
Pour mixture into ice cream maker and churn until softly frozen.
Transfer into container and freeze for at least 2-3 hours.
